Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. When the message changes to indicate that the waste ink absorber is full, printing cannot be performed and the printer may need to be serviced. Printing can be performed until the waste ink absorber becomes full. Canon really put their heads together when they designed this printer. The waste ink absorber is a part inside of your printer that absorbs excess ink used in the cleaning and printing operations. And if I didn't mention already, the printer is SO easy to setup and configure. In my opinion, although only owning this printer for 2 days now.it blows away our dinosaur of a lexmark. But, considering I'm not running a Corporation out of my home yet, haha, the canon proved most suitable for our needs. If it wasn't for the superior picture printing capability I would have went with the HP InkJet printer which hold almost 4 times the amount of paper the cannon does nad prints 34 ppm (color) compared to the Canons 29 ppm (color). This Canon PIXMA MX860 was rated as #1 on a list of 10 others. I had searched different printers via a list of top printer for 2010*. This printer made our lives so much easier because we used to have to send emails to ourselves or use flash drives to export files to our desktop which DIDN'T have microsoft word, needless to say it made our lives heLL especially while I was in College. My windows (w/ windows 7 OS) as well as my sisters' Mac book were able to load the software and connect to the printer, via WiFi, flawlessly. In all seriousness.I never read product manuals.so this time I felt as though maybe I should.with the WiFi and all.I was wrong! Aside from *some* things which did need refrencing, setup was a real breeze. I love this printer so much I had to fight my mother to keep it downstairs for the sake of impressing friends haha.
